BODY SWEATS (for Elsa) is a tribute to Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven (1874–1927), poet and avant-garde artist and pioneer of Dadaism. The title of the work comes from her collection of poems of the same name, an erotic and proto-punk manifesto. Dance, lecture performance, poetry recitation, exercise: sweat serves as a means to explore the intertwining of effort and pleasure, a unifying force that binds together a heterogeneous collage of dance and textual materials. Love letters between friends and lovers. Waterless water gymnastics in tiger-striped leotards. A poem for the Baroness. Splits in her honor.
