BNCN: Open call for circus creators – ARTiculating artistic methodologies of Nordics and Baltics

TheBaltic Nordic Circus Network (BNCN) is welcoming applications for artist shadowing and peer-to-peer exchanges within the project ARTiculate Nordic and Baltic Circus Arts.

The project aims to recognise and articulate the artistic circus knowledge emerging in the Nordic & Baltic region. It offers opportunities for circus practitioners to share perspectives on artistic methods, approaches, and values. The project is supported by the Nordic Culture Fund.

What is the focus of this project?

At the core of this project is the concept of creative methodology within contemporary circus. We understand a creative methodology as any approach, strategy or framework that enables artists to express themselves in non-verbal ways, to explore and develop a creative practice. Methodological aspects can be: structure of the creative process, artistic tools employed, format, themes, models of working, a system of methods, approaches, and creative values.

Participants will be invited to articulate their methods, translating methods into written, digital or other mediums. Participants will engage in shadowing or peer-to-peer exchange, participate in public and private discussion sessions, hold a diary, and participate in live-streamed panel discussions.

Who can apply?

  • Circus creators from or based in the Nordic-Baltic region,
  • you should be a practising artist with experience in working with contemporary circus,
  • you should have a creative methodology that you are applying to your own work. This is needed to ensure reciprocity of the process and a possible support in the methodology articulation,
  • The language of the project is English; to ensure good communication during the project, a good command of English is necessary. We welcome applications from everyone, regardless of gender, age, nationality, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or background.
  • Artists can travel to their host organisations from anywhere in Europe.

What we offer
