Finnish dance film gem reaches new heights with Virgin Atlantic

The airline partnered with a UK-based film festival to add dementia-friendly cinema to inflight entertainment. Kati Kallio’s award-winning dance film is one of eight films included in the selection.

The dance film Walks With Me (Fin. Käy rinnallain) by director Kati Kallio and the dance group Myrskyryhmä – Tempest Group is part of Virgin Atlantic’s dementia-responsive inflight entertainment offer. The film is one of eight short films selected, which are available on the airline’s flights from June to December this year.

The included films were selected by a working group of the WOFFF – Women Over Fifty Film Festival in the UK. The films in the selection rely heavily on visual storytelling and do not require following dialogue, which is particularly suitable for passengers living with dementia.

Walks With Me delicately goes through the life cycle of a woman. The theme is universally touching and the film has won numerous awards, including the Best Short Film Director award at the Rainbow International Film Festival in the UK in 2023. The film, premiered in 2021, is a continuation of Kati Kallio and Myrskyryhmä’s participatory collaborations with elderly people.
