The Sirkka and Tanka databases are no longer being updated.
Theatre Museum, Theatre Info Finland TINFO, the Finnish National Opera and Ballet, Circus & Dance Finland, and the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland have joined forces to develop a new performing arts database.
Essi–the Finnish Performing Arts Database—brings together and replaces the existing Ilona, Encore, Tanka, Sirkka, and Daniel databases. Once the database is complete, information on works and productions in Finnish theater, opera, dance, circus, and performance art will be available in a single service and accessible online to anyone interested.
Essi will be launched to the public in the spring of 2027. For now, Sirkka and Tanka databases are still running on Circus Info Finland’s and Dance Info Finland’s old websites. You can view the databases via the links below.
The Finnish circus database Sirkka gathers information about Finnish circus art. The database contains information about circus groups, works, artists and teachers. In Sirkka, you can find information on c. 600 Finnish circus performances, and in addition Sirkka contains almost 150 artist and circus teacher profiles.
The Finnish dance database Tanka contains information about the works of Finnish dance art. Tanka has information on all currently active domestic professional dance groups as well as information on premieres from year 2000 onwards. In addition, Tanka has information on more than 1 000 individual dance artists/choreographers and their works. The collection and updating of artist data has been suspended in 2022, but every year approximately 100 Finnish premieres are added to Tanka.
