Many Finnish circus and dance artists and groups are on the road again. So hop in and let’s see where they are performing.
Starting close to home, in Sweden there are several upcoming opportunities to enjoy a show by Finnish artists. In October, Hands some Feet brings their colourful family show Colorsphere to Inkonst in Malmö, 14–16 October. Tiia Kasurinen’s SURFACE can also be seen at Inkonst the following month on 29 November. And a bit further north on the Western coast, Elina Pirinen’s Mortal Tropical Dances makes an appearance at Norrlandsoperan, Umeå, on the 4th of December.
In neighbouring Norway, Dancer by Janina Rajakangas Project is part of CODA Dance Fest programming in Oslo with shows on the 17th and 18th of October. A couple of weeks later on the 5th of November, Sonja Jokiniemi’s ÖH travels to Sandnes kulturhus.
Hopping across the straits to Denmark, there’s an opportunity to see circus company Nuua’s Meanwhile, a show for two jugglers, at Baltoppen LIVE in Ballerup, 5–6 November.
Moving on to Western and Central Europe, in Belgium you can check out WAUHAUS’s very wet show Fluids at Kunstencentrum Viernulvier in Gent on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th of October. Sonya Lindfors also visits Belgium with One Drop at Beursschouwburg in Brussels, 18–19 October with an artist talk after the show on Friday. Later in October, One Drop will be in Hamburg, Germany for its German premiere on 25–26 October at Kampnagel.
On the touring side of things, Viivi Roiha tours France with her solo performance V from October to next January – see here for tour dates and locations. Also, Sirkus Aikamoinen & Circus I love you are touring in France and Belgium this Autumn with their show I Love You Two. For dates & locations, see their website.
Finland is the theme country at this year’s Les Boréales festival in Normandy. Finnish circus is part of the programming with Kate & Pasi’s show Suhde, 27–28 November. The aforementioned circus company Hands some Feet bring their eponymous performance to France as well with shows at Graine de Cirque in Strasbourg 14–21 December.
For more Finnish circus, Kalle Nio‘s fascinating show The Green will get its Netherlands premiere at the Puppet International festival in Meppel on 3–4 November. During the same week or so, Company Portmanteau’s Perto visits Unidram Festival in Potsdam on the 9th of November for the show’s German premiere. And what’s best, there’s an opportunity to see BOTH Kalle Nio and Portmanteau the week after that, when their collaborative show Black Magic‘s Austrian premiere is part of On the Edge’s programme in Vienna, 15–16 November.
Finally, outside Europe Tiia Kasurinen performs a demo of her show Songbird at Dance Base Yokohama in Japan on the 3rd of November.
So, again there are plenty of great opportunities to see Finnish dance and circus here and there in Europe. For more shows in Finland and abroad, see the Performance Calendar on the Circus & Dance Finland website.
