Samir Lindfors, founder and director of a traditional tented circus touring in Finland, has set up a new circus in the United States. Circus Golden Star will start conquering the hearts of Americans from Arizona in January.
Samir has run Sirkus Tähti (transl. “Circus Star”) for ten years in Finland and spent his winters in the United States. “From the beginning, our dream has been to do a circus in America one day. My wife and I have been actively planning and building this for a few years now. We currently live in Arizona. We will be together and apart in the US and Finland. We have planned this so that both circuses will run,” he says. Sirkus Tähti will also tour Finland again in summer season.
Ahead of the premiere, he explains that Circus Golden Star’s show features talented artists from several countries. “The new tent was bought from Italy and the equipment is pristine,” he says. “The difference with Finland is that in the United States the circus stays longer and spends a week or two in the same place. In a big country, it’s also easy to find artists from all over the world.”
“We bring a touch of European circus culture to the US, which is reflected in the way we put together the show. The circus area will also look more European.”
Circus Golden Star will premiere on 24 January in Yuma, Arizona. The plan is for the first tour to cover five states.
