CirkusExpo, a showcase and meeting place for Nordic circus companies and presenters, and CirkusMania, a festival of Swedish and international circus for the public, will be held in Stockholm in February. Circus art from Finland will be featured at both events.
CirkusExpo takes place in Stockholm, and Riksteatern in Hallunda, February 13–16, 2025. Aimed at international programmers, the networking and marketing event will showcase Swedish, Finnish and Danish circus works in pitches and previews.
From Finland, the Expo pitch programme includes Arctic Ensemble with their new successful creation Ensembled, Sisus with their upcoming performance Spare Your Darlings, Sirkus Aikamoinen with Viivi Roiha‘s acknowledged solo work “V” and Race Horse Company with The Replaceables, produced in collaboration with Swedish regional theatre Östgötateatern. CirkusExpo is now being held for the third time alongside CirkusMania festival. Both events will include seminars and conversations on circus as a boundary-pushing art form, the link between scenography and dramaturgy, and innovative collaborative touring models.
CirkusMania festival will spread to Stockholm and the surroundings from 7 to 16 February. Coordinated by the cultural cluster Subtopia, the festival will present 15 contemporary circus works from Sweden and other European countries, including Catalonia and France.
Several works by Finnish artists are featured in the festival’s programme. Nelli Kujansivu‘s solo work Impacts is an abstract autobiographical narrative that takes the viewer through trauma to acceptance. Lotta Paavilainen and Stina Kopra have worked together as an acrobatic duo on rola-bola for a couple of decades. In 20 Years later, still here! they tell their epochal story. The Finnish music performance trio Niki Blomberg, Milla Lahtinen and Heidi Finnberg create the intense stage presence and energising soundscape of the Muovipussi band.
Registration for CirkusExpo is open until January 13, 2025. The event is open to presenters, programmers, agents, cultural financiers and other organizations supporting the performing arts along with journalists and cultural writers. Registration includes a professional package of CirkusMania performances.
Circus & Dance Info Finland’s head of international development Lotta Nevalainen and director Tove Ekman will be present at the event, so this is a great opportunity to come say hi to us as well. In addition, representatives of circus companies Kallo Collective, Nordic Council, Opus Company and Recover Laboratory will also be present at CirkusExpo.
CirkusExpo 2025 is organised by Riksteatern, Sweden. The Circus and Dance Info Finland is a partner of the event. Other partners include The Swedish Arts Council, The Swedish Arts Grants Committee and The Danish Arts Foundation.
