A wild and action-packed dance carnival celebrates the joy of living. Zona Franca combines chaotic energy with surprising calm.
A wild and action-packed dance carnival celebrates the joy of living. Zona Franca combines chaotic energy with surprising calm.
Famed Alice Ripoll’s work is created in collaboration with Cia Suave dance company whose members hail from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Together, they create a space for play and freedom where Brazilian street dance intertwines with contemporary dance, performance, contact improvisation, and TikTok choreographies. Interlaced with exuberance are reflections of societal change in Brazil and the hopes and dreams for a better future of its youth.
According to Ripoll, Zona Franca is an attempt to depict Brazil’s euphoria, hope, uncertainty, and chaos.
