Out of Order is a journey into a world of disappearing and reappearing images through choreography, reflections and illusions.
The work is presented in a nonlinear way, constructed from fragmented scenes presented out of sequence – like pieces of a puzzle from a larger whole that never fully comes into view. The viewer is invited to interpret what they see, and piece together their own, unique picture.
The name Out of Order refers not only to the nonlinear storytelling, but also to things that are broken. At its core, the piece deals with memory, perception and other fallible ways in which we try to make sense of our lives. Flaws, imperfections and the pieces of us that are out of place – they’re not exceptions, but rather a fundamental condition of being alive.
Out of Order is the work of Brazilian choreographer Fernando Melo with set design by Kalle Nio. The pair’s previous collaboration, Tempo, was seen as part of the Helsinki Festival programme.
