A new celebration of dance is coming to Kuopio! Dance Theatre Minimi presents the International Dance Day Celebration (Kansainvälisen tanssin päivän Rieha in Finnish) together with Kuopio City Theatre and the Kuopio City of Dance community.

Rakke is a part of the International Dance Day Celebration!

International Dance Day takes place worldwide on 29th of April, inviting everyone to move and express themselves through the joy and power of dance! Over 100 countries mark the day with performances, workshops, flash mobs, school events, and community gatherings, where movement brings people together across languages and cultures.

Join us for a fun-filled celebration of dance! On the International Dance Day we offer a program where everyone can enjoy the movement and energy of dance together. The full program will be published on 20th of January 2026.

The evening culminates with an international guest performance on the Maria stage. Belgian mother-and-son duo Patricia George and Louis Thuriot bring their award-winning duet Rakke to Kuopio.

Rakke is a West Flemish word meaning “quarrel.” The work draws inspiration from the family’s internal conflicts and the complex emotions they involve—shame, pride, frustration, anger, and loss of control. Conflicts between parents and children have many layers, and exploring them has provided the artists with rich creative inspiration.

They observed recurring patterns and asked themselves: What sparks a quarrel? What keeps it going? How does it ultimately resolve? These emotions form the foundation of their work and shape Rakke into a deeply personal story.

In addition, the evening features a surprise program that is sure to delight curious audiences and complete the unique experience of the night.
