Contemporary dance performance for young audiences
“Paperia” is a contemporary dance piece exploring themes of memory, preservation, and identity in a rapidly changing urban culture. The work consists of short scenes and atmospheric images in which different movement techniques—contemporary dance, circus, and parkour—blend together. As materials, the piece uses thread and metal, old and new, cold and soft.
“For me, the creative process began with studying an old knitting technique passed down in my family. I started practicing this disappearing craft to help keep it alive in the future. While knitting, I felt that something which could have been deeply my own was actually unfamiliar to me—part of a vanishing world.”
Iiro Näkki’s solo work “Paperia,” aimed at young audiences, is Playground Co.’s debut production and will premiere in May 2026.
