Discover Finnish circus and dance – Touring shows from May to August

Circus and dance from Finland take the international stage this summer as several productions embark on tours across Europe and Asia. From the prestigious Venice Biennale to the vibrant Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Finnish artists continue to captivate audiences with their unique blend of technical mastery and artistic innovation.

A collaboration between Finnish magician and visual artist Kalle Nio and Brazilian choreographer Fernando MeloTempo, premiered at the Helsinki Festival last autumn. Following its successful debut, the work has attracted widespread international interest and is touring extensively this year. This July, Tempo will be performed as part of the Venice Biennale’s dance program in Italy.

Twenty-four years ago, the Venice Biennale commissioned choreographer Tero Saarinen’s signature solo, HUNT. This June, the piece will be performed in Mulhouse and Strasbourg, interpreted by dancers from the Ballet de l’Opéra national du Rhin.

Choreographer Jarkko Mandelin has created a fast-paced and daring parody of the creative process behind a dance piece. The Bolero is a duet built on the foundation of Kinetic Orchestra’s partnering technique and the performers’ extensive technical expertise. The work, which premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe last year, is set to tour four countries this August.

The new production by Based on Kimberly—an experimental, physical, and satirical work, Yes Person, performed by circus artists Imogen Huzel and Inka Pehkonen—is touring Spain, Sweden, and Germany before taking the Edinburgh Festival Fringe by storm in August. The work is co-produced by Cirko and their w/ co-production network.

Numerous other Finnish companies and artists are set to perform on stages of all sizes across Europe and Asia this summer. Browse the full list of touring productions below, including venues, dates, and ticket links. For easy navigation, countries are listed alphabetically.
