SalamaDance Company x Lappeenranta City Theatre Via Karelia

Via Karelia is an intergenerational contemporary dance piece exploring the embodied experience of one’s home region.  It draws inspiration from Karelian cultural heritage and the pre-war memoirs of Siiri Salama. In the work, shared history, tradition, and the present moment intertwine through movement, music, and embodied expression. What do we carry with us from the past? What is passed on, what changes, and what remains a part of us?

Via Karelia invites the audience to engage in movement in relation to their own home region. Although the piece looks to the past, it lives strongly in the present and reaches toward the future. The entire piece is performed to the music of folk musician Maija Kauhanen.

The work is a co-production between SalamaDance Company and Lappeenranta City Theatre.
