HANG ABOUT – Roikkuli is a site-specific vertical dance duet by dance artists Taru Aho and Jyrki Kasper, taking place at Mustikkamaa in Helsinki
Two dancers, Taru Aho and Jyrki Kasper, hang from trees in harnesses to open up a familiar urban area from a new perspective. Dance piece grows from a question: what does it mean to hang around, to linger, to spend time without purpose? HANG ABOUT – Roikkuli takes the everyday physicality found at Mustikkamaa as the starting point for its movement material. Hanging from a tree, hanging out at a place, hanging from another person creates a playful dance of acrobatics and forms a spatial-political gesture. The performance asks: what are we allowed to do in public spaces, and what guides our behavior?
The performance is free of charge and suitable for the whole family. You can watch it from beginning to end, or simply stop for a moment on your way past.
