Alive is a site-specific vertical dance performance that explores the human entanglement with and relationship to the tree. A contemporary circus performance, a living sculpture, an immersive experience, opening our human imagination to the both mythic and scientific idea of the tree being alive.
Lying underneath the canopy of a large tree, immersed in a soundscape of deep voices, you are invited to dream with the tree again, as bodies of aerial circus artists grow out of the branching canopy and a relational journey between human and tree begins.
The majestic sculpture of the tree in the center, and through vertical dancers in the tree’s canopy, ‘relational costumes’ that stretch between the tree and the dancers, and a supporting soundscape, Alive re-imagines site-specific performing arts in a way that situates the tree at the centre of our world.
