The Flying Man on Turun päivän säväyttävin kulttuurielämys! Ennennäkemätön sirkusspektaakkeli yhdistää huikeaa näyttävyyttä, rohkeutta ja aitoja stuntteja Turun jokirannassa.
The Flying Man is a co-production by contemporary circus vanguard Race Horse Company and Turku-based TemppuSirkus. The performance is an open-air spectacle combining contemporary circus, stunt technique, and classic show tradition. The work draws inspiration from historical human cannonball acts, examining them through modern artistic thinking.
At the center of the performance is a character striving for momentary heroism and the illusion of flight. Building an identity around risk, visibility, and fleeting moments, the figure is simultaneously invincible and fragile. At the moment of launch, the audience witnesses something irreversible.
Aimed at a wide audience, the work offers passersby a visually striking experience, and those looking deeper a reflection on risk, courage, and the limits of the human body. It makes no excuses for itself, simply presenting the decision to fly at all costs.
The piece stems from performer Teemu Skön’s long-standing relationship with danger and pushing the body to its absolute limits. Skön’s artistic drive is fueled by a fascination with the moment when a person voluntarily takes a major risk and bears the consequences.
The production is supported by the Aboa grant awarded by the City of Turku.
