Figure Lunaire – the human body as monument, presence and moving sculpture.
Figure Lunaire is a solo dance work in which the human body momentarily becomes a monument, an apparition and a moving sculpture. The dancer moves at the threshold between human being, memorial and mythical creature, entering into a dialogue with the surrounding space.
The movement language of the work draws inspiration from winged beings and deities found in mythologies across different cultures. Yet the wings do not appear as physical objects, but as a bodily and anatomical possibility: the opening of the shoulder blades, the supporting capacity of the arms and the flow of breath. The human body emerges as a being reaching towards flight while remaining bound to the ground.
The musical world of the performance is built around the tension between Rosalía’s Berghain and Philip Glass’s Mishima. An intimate and urban soundscape meets minimalist structures, creating a space where movement can be at once ritualistic, architectural and deeply personal.
Figure Lunaire does not tell a story or depict a single myth. Instead, it invites the audience to encounter a figure moving between the human, the monumental and the mythical.
The first performances of Figure Lunaire took place in front of the Turku Art Museum during Turku Night of the Arts. On Turku Day, Sunday 20 September 2026, the work moves into two very different environments: the courtyard of Turku City Library and the interior spaces of Forum block.
