Kompani Giraff A Study of Losses

Kompani Giraff is an internationally renowned contemporary circus company based in Stockholm, described as a flagship of Swedish contemporary circus. The company is known for its visually striking, meticulously crafted and technically accomplished performances, in which reality and imagination merge into distinctive worlds on stage.

Through circus, contemporary magic and object manipulation, Kompani Giraff creates its own world on stage, where playfulness and melancholy exist side by side.

In the performance, four circus artists and a collection of forgotten everyday objects come to life in a landscape where even the objects seem to have their own memories, dreams and phantom pains. The work skilfully moves between reality and imagination, inviting the audience to reflect on all that disappears from our lives – and what remains.

Music plays a central role in the performance. Zach Condon of the band Beirut has composed a new musical work for the production, drawing influences from both indie pop and Renaissance music. His distinctive sound creates a sense of wistful beauty and a powerful atmosphere throughout the performance.

The work is loosely based on An Inventory of Losses (Verzeichnis einiger Verluste), the award-winning work by German author Judith Schalansky, which explores history and human life through the perspective of loss.
