Kati Raatikainen Absence

A piece about human and dog coexistence; about love and impossibility, and what it feels like to be so human.

Absence is choreographer Kati Raatikainen’s performance, in which she explores the embodiment of her personal experiences on the themes of absence and inaccessibility, reflecting them, especially on her relationship with her companion dog Kara.

Raatikainen is interested in the interactive nature of corporeality, intertwining histories, evolution as manifestations in the body, and the questions of becoming-with.

In Absence, along with closeness and similarity, lies a question on how it feels to not reach, be alone, or be different as an animal – so human.

Raatikainen performs alone, carrying Kara, absent from the performance, on her way.
