Liisa Pentti +Co & rendezvous Baroque Pearl – Dances for Spring and Silence

The contemporary dance performance explores the encounters of dance and music.

A collaboration between Liisa Pentti +Co and the rendezvous group, the performance zeroes in on the birth and feel of dance and the specificity of encounters between dance and music. It continues choreographer Liisa Pentti’s exploration of the relationship between dance, music and space, this time undertaken with the rendezvous group.

Baroque Pearl – Dances for Spring and Silence was inspired by Japanese composer Susumu Yokota‘s album Baroque (2004). The choreography is structured in six sections, some of which are solos and duets.

Composer Yokota, who passed away in 2015, said of his music:
‘I’m trying to achieve that beautiful thing. There is always fear, rage, and ugliness existing behind beauty. I have been trying to express ki-do-ai-raku (the four emotions: joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness) through music. I would like to express even one’s hidden emotion with reality. It’s my eternal goal.’

The performance is part of Feels Like Home exhibition’s programme.
