Come to Harju to experience how the artworks and artists absorb something romantically terrifying from the old Morgue!
The detailed program and artist introductions: instagram.com/recoverlaboratory.
Thu 26 Feb The program features performance artist Hedda Liukkala’s mythical contemporary circus, and drag kings Jartsa and Kartsa by Henna Nerg and Lea Lintula. We also get to experience Lauri Lohi’s performance, combining drag, clowning, and eroticism – the piece melts together the longing for perfect love, the decaying transience of the morgue, and the cringe ethos of the modern age. The evening will conclude with Recover Laboratory’s music performance, Music from Nonstop Paradise.
Fri 27 Feb The audience is welcome to witness the creation of metal sculptures, when Helsinki-based sculptors visit the morgue to cast aluminum artworks. Tuisku’s tarot corner welcomes all who are curious and lost, and death doula Elli Isokoski is available to discuss death with you. We also get to hear Oxi Koskelainen’s experimental DJ set, adding to the atmosphere.
Sat 28 Feb The event culminates in a dark and nuanced debut performance by musician Saint Seer, a rap and spoken word solo by ShyStella, who draws on their Karelian roots, and a one-of-a-kind scrap metal drum show by the Trash Drumming collective.
Doom Loves Gloom is part of the Harju Roomies event series, in which the performance art collectives Jenni Kivelä & Kiltit ihmiset, Höyhentämö, and Recover Laboratory will be producing art content at Harju’s old morgue throughout February. The collectives are invited together by the Forum Box gallery, whose member artists’ exhibition “Statutum est hominibus mori” will be on display at the morgue throughout February.
