Favela Vera Ortiz FIGURE LUNAIRE

Figure Lunaire is a site-specific solo dance work in which the human body momentarily appears as a monument, a manifestation and a sculpture in motion. The dancer takes her place on an empty pedestal, entering into a dialogue with the surrounding city space. The first performances of the work will take place in front of the Turku Art Museum.

The movement draws inspiration from winged beings and deities found in the mythologies of different cultures. The wings, however, do not appear as physical objects, but as an anatomical and embodied possibility: the opening of the shoulder blades, the lifting capacity of the arms and the flow of the breath. The human body emerges as a being reaching towards flight while remaining bound to the ground.

The musical world of the work is built around the tension between Rosalía’s Berghain and Philip Glass’s Mishima. Rosalía’s intimate and urban soundscape meets Glass’s minimalist structures, creating a space in which movement can be at once ritualistic, architectural and deeply personal.

Figure Lunaire does not construct a narrative or depict a single myth. Instead, it invites the audience to encounter a figure moving between the human, the monument and the mythical being.
