Dance Theatre Minimi Flood

Dance Theatre Minimi invites the internationally acclaimed choreographer Janina Rajakangas to create an extraordinary collaboration in Kuopio.

The collaborative work Flood (Tulva in Finnish) emerges through the cooperation of professional dancers and local amateurs, transforming into a full-length contemporary dance performance on the Maria stage of Kuopio City Theatre.

During the performance, the dance group pauses to reflect on the news feed. A flood of images about global uncertainty, the ecological crisis, and both good and bad news is captured as notes for the dancing ensemble. Instead of scrolling through the images, they stop to study and embody the postures of the people appearing in them.

Dozens of postures are remembered, practiced, and transformed into a rhythmic choreography. The performers dance, run, and shout as the flood of images flows through their bodies. The stream of images repeats and rebuilds itself continuously, inviting reflection on how, and around what, we humans gather.

Flood premieres in Kuopio and will then travel to other cities. The premiere is on 12 February at 18:15 pm on the Maria stage. The work is suitable for all ages, and especially adults curious about the news.
