Janina Rajakangas Flood

Flood (Tulva in Finnish) is a contemporary dance performance featuring professional dancers and local dance enthusiasts. The piece invites us to reflect on what brings us together and what we let flow past us.

Internationally acclaimed choreographer Janina Rajakangas has collaborated with Dance Theater Minimi to create a piece in which a group of professional and amateur dancers pauses to reflect on the flood of images from the news and social media.

Dozens of postures are remembered, practiced, and transformed into a rhythmic choreography. The performers dance, run, and sing as the flood of images flows through their bodies. The stream of images repeats and rebuilds itself continuously, inviting reflection on how, and around what, we humans gather.

Flood premiered in Kuopio on February 12, 2026. This highly popular production will be performed in Kuopio and other cities during the summer and fall of 2026!

The production will be staged at the Kotkan Meripäivät Festival on July 22 and 23 with local amateur performers.

In addition, the performance will be presented as a duet by dancers Katja Mustonen and Maria Mäkelä at the Night of the Arts in Helsinki on August 20. Read more on the Night of the Arts website!

Both the performances at the Kotkan Meripäivät and the Night of the Arts in Helsinki are free of charge.

In Kuopio, the work will next be performed at the Maria Stage of the Kuopio City Theater on November 11 and November 19, 2026! Read more and buy tickets!
