Favela Vera Ortiz Footnotes #3

Flowing paintings as inspiration for a dance performance Footnotes #3

Footnotes is a concept and a series of performances by choreographer Favela Vera Ortiz, which is inspired by paintings displayed in gallery spaces or museums. The dance performance creates a dialogue between the paintings and the movement. Space, paintings, movement and sound together create the work.

The third part of the series, Footnotes #3, was inspired by the paintings of the artist Satu Metsola. Metsola’s exhibition Think like a mountain consists colorful oil paintings that do not present anything or try to offer ready-made interpretations, but ask to stop, be present and see.

“Satu Metsola’s colorful paintings were inspiring and made a strong impact on me. The paintings reminded me of different bodies of water and water elements, for example the canals of Venice. These associations are now taking shape in my own work as movement which runs through dancer Laura Lehtinen’s body in slow and accelerating swirls” says Favela Vera Ortiz.

The premiere of the performance will be seen at the opening of Satu Metsola’s exhibition at Galleria Dromig in Helsinki.
