Mental Airport festival Grus Grus Theatre: Avvikelse

"Avvikelse" is a bodily-visual ritual piece created by Janna Haavisto, exploring experiences of bodily memory.

“Avvikelse” is a bodily-visual ritual piece created by Janna Haavisto, exploring experiences of bodily memory with the aim of unraveling them. Through the performer’s actions, the wordless performance simulates internal emotional experiences into external ones. In this intimate ritual, there is no storytelling; performers exist but do not portray.

This multi-sensory contemporary art piece, combining body, sound, and video art, plays with the possibilities of embodiment. Through moments of breathless physicality and meditative silence, it reaches towards essential themes of being human. At its core lies the concept of change and the human process where time is imprinted on our bodies. Moment by moment, time not only changes us but also our experience of ourselves and others.

“Avvikelse” premiered on May 13, 2021, at the Bodybuilding Festival of Tehdas Teatteri. Now, the piece is part of Grus Grus Teatteri’s Mental Airport program. During festivals, the performance venue is Tehdas Teatteri’s Jokistudio.

The performance is non-verbal and lasts approximately 1 hour. It is aimed at adults (+12) and includes nudity.
