Kompani Giraff & Espoo theatre presents: Moln

The breathtakingly acrobatic performance throws itself into the spaces between an existential chasm and high, shining clouds that all live within each of us.

The newest magnum opus by Kompani Giraff from Stockholm, Sweden is a musical work of contemporary circus art called Moln (“Clouds”). It was inspired by the life and poetry of famous Swedish author Karin Boye. At the centre of this dreamlike performance are individuals who live at each other’s mercy in the void between childhood and adulthood. From out of dystopian undercurrents, Moln rises up to a life-affirming crescendo, as an experience that dances between the ordinary and the endlessly vast.

The breathtakingly acrobatic performance throws itself into the spaces between an existential chasm and high, shining clouds that all live within each of us. Stina Oscarson‘s experimental script includes extracts from Karin Boye‘s poems, which fuse into a seamless universe, interpreted by celebrated Swedish indie singer Jonathan JohanssonMoln is directed by the founder of Kompani Giraff, circus artist Viktoria Dahlborg.

Kompani Giraff is known for their elegant, poetically magical circus acts, complete with innovatively constructed choreographies. The group carries the torch of the legendary early-2000s variety show Salon Giraff. Alongside Dahlborg, the company’s creative directors include visionary magician Axel Aldercreutz and haute couture fashion designer Sus Soddu. Interdisciplinary principles together form surprising and visually powerful works of performance art.

“The spirit of the poet is present on stage. Like Boye’s poems, Moln speaks to all trembling hearts, young or old, who desire to keep the dream of flying alive.”

“Kompani Giraff uses acrobatics, poetry, and contemporary live music to beautifully capture the liminal arena between dreaming and waking, childhood and adulthood.”
