The Moving North Porvoo mini-festival celebrates dance on the big screen from the 1990s to the present day.
The Moving North Porvoo event will feature two fascinating screenings of dance films – a combination of Finnish and Nordic gems as well as works by pioneers from Porvoo. In addition to the screenings, there will be an artist discussion open to the public and the evening will be closed by Lemon Drop, formed by drummer, composer Joonas Leppänen and dancer, choreographer Karolina Ginman.
Dance film is an art form that transcends language barriers and genre boundaries – it is democratic, accessible and always equally fascinating.
The Moving North Porvoo event will feature two screenings of short dance films.
The Moving screening of Finnish dance films presents internationally successful dance films.
In the North screening, true Finnish pioneers of dance films meet the contemporary Nordic scene. The program includes Vertebra by Milla Moilanen and Alpo Aaltokoski and TransVersum by Marikki Hakola and Ismo-Pekka Heikinheimo. Alongside Finnish works, films from the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Denmark will be shown.
In addition to the film screenings, an artist meeting open to the public will be organized, which will provide perspectives on watching dance films and their Finnish history. The meeting will feature Marikki Hakola, Milla Moilanen and the artist duo Broas & Nyberg discussing dance films from the 90s to the 2020s. The discussion will be moderated by the dance film’s creator and curator, Kati Kallio.
The evening will end with Lemon Drop, a manifestation drawing on the subconscious and the body culture of humanity. Lemon Drop, formed by drummer, composer Joonas Leppänen and dancer, choreographer Karolina Ginman, is a manifestation focusing on the dynamics between movement and sound, drawing from the subconscious and free association, where storms and intense silence alternate.
