Nature needs ambassadors, humans on the other hand bread and circuses. Nature's Ambassador? brings animals to life on stage through art.
A milk cow looks for a new career and the job center directs her to explore opportunities in a touring circus. What kinds of tricks does she have to learn in order to find her place in the new job? Does the magic of the circus also reach backstage?
This surreal satire combines contemporary circus and puppetry, taking the audience to an absurd reality through the eyes of a production animal. On the stage we see animals brought to life through puppetry and mask theatre, as well as residents of the Tuulispää Animal Sanctuary – seen on video – without forgetting the animal tamer! The show explores the history and present state of animal circuses, presenting possibilities for animal circuses today and challenges us to engage with animals in a way that respects their autonomy.
Company Humanimalis consists of circus and theatre professionals who focus on animal rights in their art. Collective-based Nature’s ambassador? is the group’s first work.
The performance is in Finnish.
