Sivuun Ensemble & Kallo Collective Neighbour

Combining visual theater, aerial acrobatics, and contemporary dance, Neighbour is a circus performance about coexistence in an apartment building. Neighbour looks through the peephole at a a neighbourhood that is delicious in its recognizability and its lovable and burdensome residents.

Neighbor

Acclaimed for its blend of aerial acrobatics, contemporary dance, and physical comedy, Neighbor takes a look at human coexistence in an apartment building.

Dance Theatre Sivuun Ensemble brings Neighbor to Dance House Helsinki in collaboration with the internationally successful contemporary circus group Kallo Collective. The performance, which has captivated both audiences and critics, is built around absurd situations arising from the different ways people of various generations and backgrounds live together.

In this award-winning work by choreographer Ninni Perko, the audience dives into the core of humanity, breaking down boundaries between dance and physical theatre, and between dark humor and poetic expression.

One flight of stairs is the whole world.

Neighbor invites viewers to peer through the peephole into a neighborhood that is delightfully recognizable, filled with both lovable and exasperating residents. Through encounters between the inhabitants, the performance reveals sometimes painful perspectives on broader social issues of our time, such as hierarchies, shifting forms of solidarity, and the question of belonging. The multidisciplinary work was developed in collaboration with urban researcher Pekka Tuominen, and its themes are based on research into neighborhoods and suburban communities.

The music and sound design for this visually stunning production are by Jarmo Saari, recipient of the Finnish State Prize for the Arts.

Neighbor explores the possibilities of empathy and the limits of tolerance as rules take shape—and those moments when the distortions of everyday life become the norm.

A performance for everyone who has ever had a neighbor.
