Welcome to the sandbox! Or rather, to the stage! In this performance, the dancers turn the everyday into something exciting as lively dance takes over the playground and boxes spin through the air.
Outside the Box invites young audiences to dance according to rules and restrictions. Engage in the battle and follow the commands—until you no longer follow them! What happens when dancers bend rigid commands? Which rules are thrown into the scrap heap and who decides?
The autumn 2024 premiere, Outside the Box, brings children’s experiences of autonomy, rule-following, and rule-breaking into the spotlight in a playful way. This participatory piece, aimed at preschoolers, offers an approachable introduction to dance art and stimulates thoughts about fairness. When do rules help us? When are they detrimental? The work encourages independent thinking and acting differently from others when necessary.
The future will need brave and fair visionaries who can think outside the box!
