Rajatila is a contemporary dance piece that unites older adults and professional dancers. It challenges perceptions of what dance can look like and who is allowed to create it.
Rajatila is a new, deeply moving contemporary dance work by Susanna Leinonen Company that explores the visible and invisible boundaries that shape our lives. The piece continues the company’s series of works created with older adults and forms its fifth independent part.
The choreographer, Tatiana Urteva, seeks to explore the physical and emotional strength of bodies shaped by a lifetime of experience – movement and expression that arise from decades of living. Rajatila invites audiences to reflect on how psychological and physical boundaries guide our everyday lives, how they are tested, and how they ultimately shape our identities.
On stage, expressive older adults meet professional dancers. The life experience and embodied wisdom of the older performers intertwine with the dancers’ physicality and precision, creating a touching and powerful whole.
Rajatila is a work about humanity, change, and resilience. It challenges perceptions of what dance can look like and who is allowed to create it.
The piece is part of the cultural initiative, Dance Art for Seniors, supported by the City of Helsinki.
