At the Students’ evening, Spring Break showcases performances by students from the Dance Department of the University of the Arts Helsinki.
The Students’ Evening consists of four dance works:
ghost body (un)tuned is Venla Niitemaa’s solo creation on vibrations, porosity and liminal spaces. The work travels with echos and multiplicities – in the in-between. ”In this piece I have worked with loopers and ghosts. sending parts of myself around the space. to you. the work contains smoke and occasional loud noises.”
Echo Point is a duet by Pontus Linder and Cindy Ng that draws from Linder’s and Ng’s distinct movement lineages— breaking, contemporary dance, floorwork and ballet—meeting in a shared investigation of dialogue through the body.
SUO is a dance short film by Anniina Dyster, Aurora Suhonen and Lasse Väisänen. The work is an encounter between two dancers and the landscape of Finnish swamplands, guiding the viewer into the swamp’s self-willed, engulfing, unpredictable, breathing terrain.
ME is an intimate investigation of identity and of one person as part of a larger whole. Dancer Alma Äijö’s work reflects on how the body is present throughout all stages of life, past, present, and future, and how our bodily relationship and memories carry us through time.
