Black and White Theatre Festival Susanna Leinonen Company: PAIN KILLER

Pain Killer is a powerful and thought-provoking contemporary dance work that invites the audience to reflect on their own relationship with pain, vulnerability, and what it means to be human. Pain Killer continues choreographer Susanna Leinonen’s exploration of humanity and the lived experience of the body.

Pain Killer continues choreographer Susanna Leinonen’s exploration of humanity and the lived experience of the body. The work invites us to view pain as an essential part of life and asks what we lose when we attempt to eliminate it artificially. It reflects on the growing disconnection from our bodies and emotions, and how the avoidance of feeling shapes us as individuals and resonates throughout society.

The piece builds on Leinonen’s long-standing collaboration with composer and rap artist Kasperi Laine. His score creates a pulsating and experimental soundscape, further enhanced by Ville Seppänen’s video design and Teemu Nurmelin’s lighting. Sound, image, and movement intertwine to form a space that lives and breathes with the dancers.
