The Peace of the Black Flowers tells the story of the female poet Katri Vala, her passionate life and slow death. The performance combines dance, strong physicality and visual illusions, the wonders of puppet theater and audiovisual storytelling.
Katri Vala ( 1901–1944) was a poet, translator and a techer. Vala wrote her colourful, sensual poetry in free metre. She was one of the founding members of Kiila, a leftist group of artists and writers.
Mustien kukkien rauha depicts a woman’s metamorphosis, which arises equally from internal pressure and external inevitability. She blossoms, ripens, and withers. Her body changes shape — it wilts into blood and skin and is reborn in brutal and glorious transformations.
The performance combines strong physicality and visual illusions, the wonders of puppet theater and audiovisual storytelling.
The Peace of Black Flowers will be performed in Helsinki at WHS Teatteri Union on 5–7 November 2026, and in Turku as part of the TIP-Fest at the small stage of Turku City Theatre on 13–14 November 2026.
