This autumn, Finnish performing arts will be presented internationally, with a range of circus and dance productions touring across Europe—and even reaching audiences as far as China.
The stage production Tempo, created by magician and visual artist Kalle Nio in collaboration with Sweden-based choreographer Fernando Melo, explores the concept of time—its perception, acceleration, deceleration, and eventual end. Following its August premiere at the Helsinki Festival, this striking piece will tour to China, Poland and Belgium.
Denmark will see a particularly strong Finnish presence this season. Choreographer and dance artist Alen Nsambu will present his solo work at Dansehallerne in Copenhagen. Two circus-based productions — Maannos by Blind Gut Company, which merges video art with object manipulation, and The Receptionist, a physical comedy by Kallo Collective — will tour multiple venues across Denmark. Additionally, Odense-based venue Dynamo will host several Finnish works, including a work-in-progress performance of Yes Person by circus artists Inka Pehkonen and Imogen Huzel, as well as The Mews, Kallo Collective’s parody set in the world of news media.
In November, the Tero Saarinen Company and TTT Theatre will present their multidisciplinary interpretation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth at Théâtre de Caen in France. December will feature two new contemporary dance premieres by Finnish choreographers in Germany: Æon, a new work by Johanna Nuutinen at Osnabrück Theatre, and Sweat (anthem) by Milla Koistinen, created in collaboration with the Dance On Ensemble, presented by Tanzfabrik Berlin BÜHNE.
