Finnish circus & dance on tour – near you?

Dance Theatre Tsuumi: We Called Her Bertha

You needn’t come all the way to Finland to see Finnish circus and dance, as there are again plenty of opportunities in the near future to see shows that are touring abroad.

In April, Dance Theatre Tsuumi presents their work We Called Her Bertha in Milan, where they have been invited to participate in the International Prize ”The Naked Theatre” by Teresa Pomodoro. The show can be seen at Spazio Teatro No’hma Teresa Pomodoro on the 17th and 18th of April.

Another of Tsuumi’s productions, Riikka and Antti Puumalainen’s A Couple of Humans, is also on tour and will be performed at Suidosterfees Art Festival in Cape Town, South Africa on the 28th and 30th of April.

On the circus side of things, Circus I Love You & Sirkus Aikamoinen are touring Sweden with their tent shows I love you two and Utopia. During April and May, they can be seen in Eskilstuna, Norrköping, Kvidinge, Falkenberg, Lerum, Örebro, Gävle and Söderhamn. Later in June they’ll be heading to mainland Europe – check out their website for tour information.

Also in Sweden (and with a side tour to Germany), Janina Rajakangas is part of the Stuff in the Park project that brings contemporary dance to public parks with her piece A Procession, a parade for three dancers. More information about Stuff in the Park, including performance dates, can be found on Norrdans’s website.

Tiia Kasurinen visits Danse Élargie in Paris, France with her work Courtship Display (Birds of Paradise) 15–16 May. After that she heads to One Dance Festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria to perform ONSTAGE – The Concert on the 18th of May.

Other Finnish dance artists and companies touring Europe in May include Susanna Leinonen Company presenting NASTY at the National Dance Theatre in Budapest, Hungary on the 10th of May. In Paris, Sonya Lindfors & working group’s Something like this has its French premiere at the June Events festival on 25 May.

You might have seen RISA’s GLG at last year’s Performing HEL in Helsinki, but if you didn’t, there’s an opportunity to see this dance and partner acrobatics performance at the PIT Festival in Porsgrunn, Norway on 7–8 June. Also, Pauliina Feodoroff’s collective performance Matriarchy visits Festival Theaterformen in Braunschweig, Germany 13–23 June.

Finally, in July WAUHAUS will bring their piece The Companion to the Baltoscandal Festival in Rakvere, Estonia, 4–7 July.

For more information on Finnish circus and dance performances on tour, have a look at our website’s Performances calendar. The majority of the shows listed take place in Finland, but it is updated with touring performances as well.
