Berlin-based circus artist Tobias Piero Dohm will spend next October at Cirko – Centre for New Circus’s residency in Helsinki. During the residency period, he will also familiarize himself with the Finnish contemporary circus scene. The residency is part of the Finnish-German cooperative project that aims to strengthen networks and professional skill exchange between circus artists and organizations in the two countries.
Tobias Piero Dohm will stay at Cirko’s residency for three weeks, from 4–26 October 2024. He will focus on continuing his artistic work with his “Raum.Zeit” project. In his works, Tobias makes use of object manipulation, juggling, and installation art. A public event will be organized as part of the residency; more information on this will be published later.
“We’re happy to be able to offer a residency to Tobias as part of this exchange program. The aim of the residency is not only to support Tobias’s artistic work but also to share skills, knowledge, and best practices and to strengthen contemporary circus networks between Finland and Germany,” says Salla Kurronen, executive producer at Cirko.
“The residency is a milestone for German contemporary circus, as in addition to a well-equipped space and new contacts, it offers financial resources in support of artistic work,” comments Anke Politz from BUZZ.
The cooperative programme was created by six Finnish and German cultural organizations who wish to increase international exchange in the field of contemporary circus. German contemporary circus development organization BUZZ (Bundesverband Zeitgenössischer Zirkus e.V.), Goethe-Institut in München and Helsinki, Finnland-Institut, and Cirko – Centre for New Circus together with Circus & Dance Info Finland offer a residency period in Finland to a German circus artist. The project is a follow-up to the residency offered to a Finnish circus artist in Germany in 2023. Vilhelmiina Sinervo got acquainted with the German contemporary circus scene during May and June last year.
