Kuopio Dance Festival is held 14.-20. June. The programme of the largest and most diverse dance art festival in the Nordic countries will feature more than one hundred dance performances, courses, seminars and other events.

The versatile programme of the festival includes not only many touching performances but also moments full of comedy. The programme for the young is also getting additions: there will be a brand new Children’s Gala.

Performances speak on behalf of equality and humanity

Among others, Salia Sanou from Burkina Faso and Bruno Beltrão from Brazil offer interesting performances, which explore themes such as equality in society.

I have a dream – the iconic phrase by Martin Luther King inspired the title of Sanou’s creation D’un Rêve. Beltrão, on the other hand, punches a hole through the thick fog of authoritarianism and uses art to drive change in his piece New Creation.

“Performances this year speak above all on behalf of equality and humanity,” describes Riku Lehtopolku, the artistic director of the festival.

Jasmine Morand’s LUMEN is a visual experience, where a mirror is used above dancers. Alexander Vantournhout presents a duet Through the Grapevine, that combines circus and dance. Cristiana Morganti mesmerizes with a ironic, tragicomic solo Behind the Light.

In addition, the festival includes lots of amazing performances from Finnish and international dancers and dance groups, galas and interesting events.
