Starting in August, the artistic director of Dance Theatre Minimi will be choreographer and performing artist Taneli Törmä.

As a choreographer, performer and curator he focuses on developing the performing arts towards a more diverse, intercultural, multi-perspectial and innovative form. Since 2007, Törmä has lived and worked abroad, mainly in Denmark, and will now return to Finland for his new position.

Dance Theatre Minimi is the only state-subsidised professional and year-round dance theatre in Eastern Finland, whose home base is the Maria stage of the Kuopio City Theatre.

“Moving to Kuopio is exciting. I believe that my work experience and networks will be helpful in the new job and that together we can plan interesting projects for Minimi and Kuopio. It will also be great to be closer to nature and family, which I have missed while living abroad,” says Törmä.

The artistic director of Dance Theatre Minimi is responsible for the content and programming. The Artistic Director also carries out his artistic work at the theatre and is responsible for the planning and implementing activities in cooperation with Jan Liesaho, who continues as the Executive Director.  From 2020 to 2023, Dance Theatre Minimi was led by choreographers Mikko Makkonen and Iiro Näkki. Makkonen will finish his term in June 2024.

You can run into Taneli at the international Tanzmesse in Düsseldorf, in the end of August.
