The fascinating union of ballet and metal is heading for international seas

Plague of Butterflies brings together ballet lovers and metalheads. The co-creation of Ballet Finland and Swallow the Sun will be featured on the world’s largest metal cruise next year. 

The dance group Ballet Finland and the metal band Swallow The Sun will perform their co-production Plague of Butterflies on the world’s largest metal cruise in the Caribbean sea early next year. The 70000 Tons of Metal -cruise brings together thousands of metal music fans and 60 different bands on one ship.

Plague of Butterflies was performed three times at the Alexander Theatre, Helsinki this January, and was sold out in three days. The piece combines metal music and ballet in an innovative way, and the performances gathered both ballet lovers and fans of Swallow the Sun even from abroad. The choreography is by Tuomas Hyvönen.

The shows in Alexander Threatre are nominated in the category Event of the Year at the Music x Media Industry Awards. The Industry Awards is the most significant gala for music industry professionals in Finland, organized since 1995. 

Ballet Finland celebrates its 15th anniversary in October with a series of three works under the title It’s Time. The works are choreographed by Hanna Brotherus, Kenneth Kvarnström and Johanna Nuutinen with Ballet Finland dancers as performers.
