Next Generation Festival, which brings together young dance groups from different parts of the world in London, will showcase six dance groups this year. The Youth Company of the Finnish National Ballet will kick off the festival in early June.

The Youth Company of the National Ballet has been given a unique opportunity to perform at the Next Generation Festival organized by the Royal Opera House in London, in June 2023. The group will start the festival with their performances at the Linbury Theatre, Covent Garden on June 7th and 8th.

The group will present a new piece called A Collection of Connections by Finnish-British choreographer Kristian Lever, Fragments by choreographer Emrecan Tanışin, who also works as a dancer at the Finnish National Ballet, and Over Glow by Jorma Elo, one of our country’s most internationally renowned ballet choreographers.

The Youth Company gives newly graduated dancers valuable experience in live performances

The Youth Company of the Finnish National Ballet gives newly graduated dancers valuable experience in live performances and helps them learn important work routines at the dawn of their career. Despite their young age, many of the dancers in the group have already achieved notable roles as principals and soloists in productions on the main stage of the National Ballet, such as Raymonda and Romeo and Juliet.

The Youth Company, which started its activities in 2013, consists of 14 young dancers. Approximately one third of the international group’s dancers are Finnish, while the others have come to Finland from the United States, Italy, Switzerland, France, Japan, and Spain.

The activities of the Youth Company are funded by Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation.
